Join Lewisville Parks and Recreation for Service Saturday on Saturday, August 15, at Prairie Creek! Volunteers will help remove litter and debris from the creek corridor and surrounding natural areas, improving habitat and keeping this community space clean and welcoming. Supplies will be provided. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes, dress for outdoor conditions, and bring water. All ages are welcome, though minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Meeting location is Home Depot in Lewisville at 8 a.m., volunteers will meet on the far west end of the parking lot in the grass clearing:

In observance of Juneteenth, Lewisville Animal Services will be closed on Monday, September 7th, 2026.

Please note that no volunteer activities will be permitted on this day, and volunteers will not have access to the shelter.

Volunteer schedules and activities will resume as normal on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, and all regularly scheduled volunteer opportunities will take place as usual.

Every second Saturday, help make a direct impact on the places we all love to explore. Join River Care to remove litter to help protect wildlife habitat and keep our waterways healthy. Whether you're an avid angler, trail user, paddler, or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, this is a great opportunity to give back to nature while demonstrating environmental stewardship and setting an example for others who enjoy our natural spaces.

Buckets, bags, and grabbers will be provided. Gloves, long pants, and closed toed shoes are highly recommended.

Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Use this opportunity to log volunteer hours completed independently at LLELA, including habitat restoration, trail maintenance, educational program support, wildlife monitoring, and other approved stewardship activities. Submit your hours and a brief description of your work for staff review and approval.

The Grand Theater parking lot will only be accessible to Directors/ Group Leaders of performers and Catering Staff. Pass parking only. Lot attendant will monitor the entrance and only allow performers, bands and approved vendors to enter. This position is solitary, mostly sitting.

City Staff, Festival Staff and Volunteers will need a cool place to take a break, grab a bite to eat and get away for a few minutes. All of this can be done in our Staff & Volunteer Lounge located inside the The Grand.
Duties include keeping an eye on the door to make sure the general public isn't wandering in, assist in serving as needed, to make sure the area is kept clean, tidy, well stocked.

This role requires volunteers willing to serve in any capacity during the event. Shifts could be indoors or outdoors and needs will vary.  Exact assignment is based upon need at the time of your shift and will be communicated to you ASAP.

Volunteers will assist with the setting up of the festival information booth from 3 pm- 4 pm. Following set up, festival gates open and volunteers will answer general questions about the festival or assist in other locations as assigned/needed.

Our annual Tamale Eating Contest takes place on the steps of City Hall on Saturday 1 p.m. You will be responsible for assisting staff with setting up the platform,  plating and distributing plates of tamales to contestants during the contest.

Tear down of the booth will begin during the last shift of the evening, at approximately 9:30 p.m. just before the headliner takes the Main Stage at 10 p.m.

Cat kennel volunteers play a key role in keeping our feline areas clean, safe, and comfortable. Responsibilities include assisting staff with cleaning and disinfecting kennels, feeding and watering cats, and monitoring kennel conditions throughout the shift. Volunteers help refresh litter boxes, replace water, and ensure each cat has a clean space to rest. Morning shifts (7:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.) are our busiest and most in need of support, so if you’re an early riser, we’d love your help!

Dog kennel volunteers play a key role in keeping our feline areas clean, safe, and comfortable. Dog Socializer volunteers play an important role in helping our dogs stay happy, healthy, and adoption-ready. Volunteers spend quality time with dogs through walks within the shelter, enrichment activities, and supervised exercise in the courtyards. These interactions provide much-needed mental stimulation, physical activity, and positive human connection, helping each dog show their best self to potential adopters.

Behind the scenes but incredibly important! Shelter housekeeping volunteers assist with general facility upkeep and daily operational support. Responsibilities may include folding laundry, washing and putting away dishes, restocking supplies within rooms, and monitoring kennel conditions. Volunteers are expected to check and maintain water levels for all animals (without overfilling), as well as replace bedding and enrichment items as needed. All volunteers must follow posted signage and instructions in each area. This role is essential in supporting both staff and the animals in our care.

Volunteers in our cat program play a vital role in helping our feline friends feel safe, loved, and ready for adoption. Opportunities include spending one-on-one time with cats in our get-to-know-you rooms, providing enrichment and positive interaction, and helping them build confidence. Whether you're making simple enrichment toys, engaging in playtime, or just sitting and talking with a cat who needs companionship, your time makes a meaningful difference.

The Jog-a-Dog program is perfect for volunteers who enjoy being active while helping our dogs stay happy and healthy. Participants take dogs out for 20–30 minute walks (weather permitting), providing exercise, enrichment, and helping reinforce proper leash manners.

We encourage volunteers to enjoy a walk near the pond by the shelter or take a stroll through Railroad Park across the street, giving dogs a change of scenery and added stimulation.

To give both volunteers and animals the best experience , we will ask that participants complete a minimum of 6 hours working with our shelter dogs before joining this program. A log sheet will be provided to track participation, as well as an acknowledgement form with the hands on training before you are free to sign up.

Help our pets get adoption-ready! Volunteers in our grooming program help our adoptable animals look and feel their very best. Responsibilities include bathing, brushing coats, trimming nails, and other basic grooming tasks. Whether it’s a fresh bath or a good brushing, you’ll help them feel better, look great, and stand out to future families.

Got a camera and a love for animals? Help our adoptable animals shine! Photography volunteers capture high-quality photos of pets to showcase their personalities and increase their chances of finding a forever home. Photos may be used on social media, Petfinder, and the City website.

Help bring comfort and calm to our cats and dogs by creating fun, tasty enrichment treats! Volunteers will prepare items like frozen goodies, puzzle snacks, and lick mats that provide mental stimulation and promote relaxation. This opportunity supports stress relief, encourages positive behaviors, and adds a little extra joy to each animal’s day, all while getting creative in the process. (this may include handling Peanut butter)

Provides a loving home environment for animals who need a little extra TLC! Foster volunteers care for vulnerable pets like tiny kittens and puppies, those recovering from illness or injury (with restrictions), long-term shelter residents, and even our “lightly spicy” kitties who just need a bit more time and patience to blossom. 

To ensure every foster experience is smooth, safe, and successful, all foster volunteers will be asked to review our Foster Program Guide and complete a brief foster registration form before getting started. This guide outlines important information such as daily care expectations, medical protocols, communication with staff, and available support resources. The registration form helps us match you with the right animals based on your home environment, availability, and comfort level.

Present cases as either a prosecutor or defense attorney by questioning the respondent and making recommendations to the jury. This advanced role develops public speaking, leadership, and real-world legal skills.  You must have served on the jury a minimum of 4 times and as a bailiff a minimum of 2 times.  You also must have permission from the Teen Court Coordinator.

Support courtroom operations by assisting the judge, maintaining order, and helping sessions run smoothly. This leadership role is for experienced volunteers who demonstrate responsibility and professionalism. You must have served on the jury a minimum of 4 sessions.

Serve as a member of the jury by listening to cases, asking questions, and helping decide fair consequences. Jurors build confidence, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while learning how the justice system works.

The Teen Cadet Program introduces young men and women to careers in Law Enforcement. Cadets receive leadership opportunities and build confidence through successful completion of trainings and competitions. Cadets volunteer throughout the year with special events at the police department and the City of Lewisville. They volunteer at Western Days, Battle of the Badge, and assist with parking/traffic control at special events and PD/FD-related funerals.  Cadets meet monthly on Saturday mornings.

Volunteers assist our Municipal Court and Warrant Officers by making phone calls to individuals with Class C warrants.  Phone calls would be for documentation, notification, and payment options.

For the Love of Lewisville is a day of service where volunteer groups come together to serve the Lewisville community and improve the quality of lives for others. This community-wide event includes various repairs/improvements throughout the city ranging from yard work to park cleanup. For the Love of Lewisville strengthens community and creates resiliency by addressing real physical needs in the community while improving community relationships and building community.
